BBC 5 Live – Festivals, Tattoos, Love Island & More…

Pleasure as ever to be on the Sarah Brett show this week (Wednesday 10.30pm to midnight) and take a radio walk through the day’s news, talking points and current affairs.

It was also a chance to give a shout out to some fab festivals taking place here in the north: MIF – Manchester International Festival 2019 – I attended the Bells for Peace event by Yoko Ono as well as Tree (a collaborative theatre and dance piece by Idris Elba and some very talented performers)… followed by a lovely opening night celebration in Festival Square. MIF is a great addition to Manchester’s art scene and I am curious to attend more events to see how different this MIF is to previous as it has a very new line up of organisers. Wishing everyone a fab festival! https://mif.co.uk

Next to get a mention is the Blue Dot Festival held at the brilliant and iconic Jodrell Bank, recently made a UNESCO World Heritage site. This festival is possibly one of the best in the UK and made all the more magical by its unique location. I absolutely love how Blue Dot maintains lots of elements of its scientific heritage, while bringing a broad audience some of the best acts in the world together in a beautiful Cheshire field! More info here: https://www.discoverthebluedot.com

I also gave a shout out to local Sounds of the City music festival at Castlefield Bowl – another ace venue (intimate enough to really feel like you are at a proper gig and not just arena ant!) Loads of fantastic artists are playing this now annual event and the highlight was Kylie Minogue (wow, getting to see her there and it not raining was a real bonus!).

We’ve lots of other festivals coming up too – the always magical Kendal Calling – which this year has a superb line-up – my own guilty pleasure will be the mighty Tom Jones!

On the show we also discussed Love Island’s influence on kids (er why the heck are they watching it – where are the parents grrr!??) and people taking offence to tattoos. I am not a big fan but each to their own. As ever, ace to be on the show with super-talented and all round good guy, Chris Washington who has a new show at Edinburgh – find out more about him and get tickets here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/chris-washington-raconteur
