Inspiring Women talk at Forward Ladies (Manchester House) – Collette Walsh

Collette Walsh – Friday :11 July update: Despite being a chatterbox, like most people the idea of public speaking (without Power Point) fills me with dread. But on Friday, shortly after doing a slot on BBC Breakfast, I headed over to the sensational venue that is Manchester House (the restaurant that is the dream-child of top chef Aiden Byrne – check out its stunning roof terrace bar too).

forward ladies1This was a Forward Ladies event – a networking organisation for professional women and women in business/self-employed – and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The event was a sell-out and in attendance were a bevvie of talented, bright and dynamic women who have each developed careers and businesses that are truly impressive.

One lady is the founder of a charity that gifts weddings to the terminally ill and I will be doing a blog and article about that in the near future. See Gift of a Wedding.

forward ladies 2Back to the event – well, I managed to chat non-stop (!) without too many nerves as the atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming. I shared a few anecdotes from my early days as a reporter – including writing for The Guardian Arts about a then unknown comedian … Peter Kay… fun times.

Afterwards, after my 6am start, to say I was tired is an understatement! I headed home after lunch with my Manhattan pal Chrissie (who is new to Manchester and loving it) and basically pitched myself in my garden and snoozed!

Thanks to all who attended and hope to see you all soon x
